I am 70 years old. I face the same problem. But could not do anything except take up civil suit.
There must be a law to safe guard all these. You can contact me at 93555888

I had a rich landord who owned the entire building in Handy Road, prime location who refused to return a fair deposit. Landlord is just a PR in Singapore native of Hong Kong who dares to play such underhanded tactics as well. Refused to mediate and left me high and dry. Claimed that he needed to replace the three pin sockets in the entire apartment as some after four years tenancy had their red light fused to signify the socket was on. Each socket is fully replaceable even thou there is electric current and the sockets are functional. Aparently this five star building althou is more then 10 years old has these imported sockets that have a little red light indicator to indicate if the socket is on or off. Nothing in the tenancy agreement said that these sockets light bulbs needed replacement either. Many unethical landlords out there. The worst are the ones that are foreigners who find fame and fortune in Singapore and prey on innocent Singaporeans. The building, the Luxe Art Museum is one such establishment that gives a bad name to good landlords.

There are both tenant and landlord nightmare stories, yes. But landlord is generally in better positions. There is rental deposit. There are laws that generally protecting landlord. There are tenant’s profile and screening by the agent. How many times did tenant get the landlord’s profile? How many time tenant get to meet with the landlord (if renting the whole unit) before moving in.

In Singapore, landlords are in a better position. Especially since many who rent are foreigners and may not have much recourse if they have to leave.
